26 August 2013 Dear Students, It was a pleasure to meet you today; it was, obviously, impossible to get to know you personally on the first day but we hope for many opportunities to speak with you during office hours. Office hours are YOUR BEST CHANCE to speak with us and build a mutual, professional relationship. Here are things to do before the second class: COURSE WEBSITE: ================================ Bookmark it. Love it. http://www.physics.smu.edu/pseudo/ OFFICE HOURS: ================================ These are available on the website, but we need your help for Prof. Sekula's office hours! (See below) Prof. Cotton: Wednesday and Friday after lecture and 2:00-3:00pm in room 7 Fondren Science (lower floor). Prof. Sekula: Fill out this poll with your availability: http://www.doodle.com/3un3x6i5keu2ihzs The poll closes Tuesday night at 9pm. Office hours will be determined from the information available then. HOMEWORK AND READING: ================================= Always, always, always check the syllabus for information on the next homework and reading assignments: http://www.physics.smu.edu/pseudo/syllabus.php Reading begins TODAY, and reading quizzes start Friday. Attendance quizzes have already started, and will continue every lecture for the rest of the semester. ATTENDANCE: ================================= Our attendance policy is strict: http://www.physics.smu.edu/pseudo/attendance.html If you missed class today and didn't provide paperwork as to why, you have already **missed 1 class** and have 5 left before you fail the course. We take this policy seriously; you should too. Please read carefully the policy on excused absences - they don't count against your 6 unexcused absences, but we need documentation ahead of time. ASTROLOGY INFORMATION ================================= If you failed to hand back the astrology information today, please bring it to class on Wednesday and give it to us. We have to get this to the astrologer ASAP to get readings back in time for the astrology lecture. She has to do 64 readings, so this doesn't happen quickly. Regards, Profs. Sekula and Cotton
