Judge set to decide on HIV case appeal

A Supreme Court judge in Adelaide will soon decide whether an HIV-positive man has given sufficient evidence that the virus does not exist.

Last year a jury found that 36-year-old Andre Chad Parenzee endangered the lives of three women through unprotected sex, but Parenzee is now fighting to be freed from prison.

A group of Perth doctors supporting his case have told the court that HIV does not exist.

They say the virus has not been isolated and AIDS is not transmitted through heterosexual sex.

Several international experts, including Dr Robert Gallo, who is jointly credited with discovering the virus, have finished giving evidence defending the existence of the virus.

The case has been adjourned and Justice John Sulan is expected to decide within weeks whether Parenzee can appeal against his conviction.
