Two Assistant Professor Positions in High Energy Physics

The Department of Physics at the Southern Methodist University invites applications for two tenure track Assistant Professor positions in high energy physics to start in August, 2009. One position is for an experimentalist while the other can be either in the area of experiment or in theory. Outstanding applicants at the associate or full professor level will be considered in exceptional cases. We particularly encourage those candidates whose qualifications would complement and strengthen the department. SMU Department of Physics has 12 teaching and research faculty members, all active in research in high energy physics. Faculty members are expected to be effective teachers at both the undergraduate and the graduate level and to initiate and maintain vigorous research programs. SMU has an active program with a strong presence on ATLAS, D0, NOνA , eBubble and AGE projects. Candidates interested in the ATLAS program are expected to take leadership role in the LHC data analysis. Other ATLAS activities include LAr calorimeter commissioning, data monitoring, software activities and R&D on the electronics for the LHC luminosity upgrade.
