Chapter 1: Extra Credit: DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS For the case of 1) the simple pendulum, and 2) a mass on a spring do the following: * Identify the 3 most important variables in the problem. * Using these 3 variables, construct a formula for the period from dimensional analysis. * Compare this with the correct formula. (I.e., dimensional analysis can only get the variables, not the constants.) Note: only do this step after you have completed your formulas. * Comment on any variables which are unused. (Hint. This is the really powerful part of dimensional analysis: it tells you what matters, and what doesn't.
