Chapter 24
----------
2). Time of travel = distance/velocity
For radio wave velocity is equal to velocity of light
c = 3*10^8 m/s
and time T = L/c,
where L is a distance.
Time for the signal travel from the Moon:
T(Moon) = 3.85*10^8 m / 3*10^8 m/s = 1.28 s
Time for the signal travel from Mars:
T(Mars) = 5.6*10^10 m / 3*10^8 m/s = 187 s
3). The resonance frequency of a LC circuit (see equation 23.10)
f = 1/[2*pi*sqrt(L*C)]
We can invert this equation to solve for C
C = 1/((2*pi*f)^2*L) = 1/((2*3.14*1.2*10^6 Hz)^2*2.6*10^(-4) H) =
= 6.7*10^(-11)F = 670 nF
7). The relation between frequency, velocity and wavelength is
c = f * lambda ,
where lambda is the wavelength and c is the speed of light.
---> f = c/lambda = 3*10^8 m/s / 2.1*10^(-9) m = 1.42*10^17 Hz
8). Here again
c = f * lambda
---> lambda = c/f = 3*10^(8) m /2.70^9 Hz = 0.11 m
16). Time = distance / velocity
T = L/c = 1.277*10^12 m / 3*10^(8) m/s = 4256 sec ~ 1.2 hours.
