2007 Student Checklist
How To Participate in the Beal Bank Dallas Regional Science & Engineering Fair
Step 1: Identify a Topic
June – Dec. 2006: Identify a topic, start your research, and formulate your hypothesis. All public and private school students, grades 7-12, from Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties (TEA Region 10) are eligible to participate.
Step 2: Complete ISEF Forms
June – Dec. 2006: After identifying a topic, but before you begin your experimentation, go to the ISEF Forms Wizard (linked from DallasScienceFair.org) and fill out the required forms. This ensures you are properly following the necessary safety procedures.
Step 3: SRC Forms Approval
Scientific Review Committee (SRC) forms must be filled out before the experiment begins!!! If your forms require SRC approval (for example, if you are working with bacteria) give your teacher a copy of your SRC forms so that he or she can receive approval from the district SRC representative. Note: SRC approval requests must be sent as soon as possible, but no later than December 1. Forms returned with SRC approval signatures become your new originals. Always retain the latest original; send only copies.
Step 4: SRC Forms Revision
Deadline: January 10: Required revisions to the SRC forms must be completed and resubmitted. It is best to make revisions as soon as possible.
Step 5: Participate in School Fair
Fall 2006 to Feb. 21, 2007: Participate in your local school Science & Engineering fair. If you are a “winner” at your fair and are one of those selected to represent your school, you may then participate in the Beal Bank Dallas Regional Science & Engineering Fair (DRSEF).
Step 6: Represent Your School at DRSEF
Deadline: Feb. 21, 2007: If you are selected to represent your school at the DRSEF: Go online to DallasScienceFair.org and register your project. Be sure to print a copy of your confirmation page; this serves as proof that you registered before the deadline. For a team project, only one member of the team needs to fill out the registration form.
Step 7: Verify Registration
March 1-12, 2007: Login to DallasScienceFair.org to check that your registration has been approved by your teacher and/or school. This ensures that the projects registered are eligible to participate in the Fair.
Step 8: Participate in the Fair
March 24, 2007: Participate in the Dallas Regional Science & Engineering Fair. Refer to the website for the day-of-fair student schedule.
Be sure to bring a copy (not the original) of your SRC forms with you to the Fair; these forms are required at the Fair check-in.
