PHYS 1304 – Introductory Electricity & Magnetism

RULES

• The course web homepage is at http://www.physics.smu.edu/~sdalley/1304/1304summer.html where all relevant information will be posted.

• Cell phones must be turned off and put away at all times during lectures and exams (or they become property of the lecturer).

• I will use your official SMU e-mail address to communicate with you regularly, so plan to check your account.

• For each lecture you are required to bring your own textbook and your own calculator.

• You must use your own (non-programmable) calculator on each exam. Sharing a calculator will be considered cheating by both parties.

• This course operates a policy of zero tolerance toward Academic Dishonesty in any form in any exam. It will always result in an automatic F grade for the course. In all cases a filing will be made with the Honor Council.

Grading

· There will be 4 tests, one at the end of each week. The test questions will be selected from the end-of-chapter Questions/Problems (except those in the Student Solution Manual) for the chapters covered that week; partial credit is given. There will also be a comprehensive multiple choice Final exam. Each test and the Final count 20% to the course grade. You will need a calculator and the textbook in the tests and exams.

· The letter grade boundaries will be fixed absolutely mid-way through the course.

· Homework questions with solutions are provided for practice, i.e. attempt the questions first, then check your answers! These will not be graded but you are encouraged to consult the lecturer about any difficulties you have with them. You can also practice with end-of-chapter Questions/Problems of your choice but, for obvious reasons, specific solutions and guidance will not be provided before tests on which they may appear.
