average is used and a bug with the test averages ahs been fixed.
A review for he final is scheduled for Friday the 8th of December from
11:00-1:00 pm in room FS 127.
There will be no recitation session this Thursday.  Chad will run a session
next week, date and time to be announced (session will probably be on Tuesday).

17 Nov 2000:  I am not able to post grades for test 3 (friday version).  The scantron machine
was locked up before the test was over.   I have, however, posted the solutions
to the test so that you may evaluate how well you did.  click here

10 Nov 2000:  Homework set 9 has been posted.  This set is for study purpose only, it will not
be graded.  Use it to test your skills.    I have also posted a practice test for test
number three.   Please note that this practice test does not cover all the material on
you will be tested in test 3.

Barring any problems with classrooms Test 3 has been rescheduled for:
Friday the 17th of November at 3:30 pm, and,
Monday the 20th of November at 3:30 pm.  Rooms to be announced.

5 Nov 2000:  Reading assignments posted.   Please also look at the updated syllabus.
Note that we are skipping chapter 14 on sound.

30 Oct 2000:
The snafu with the grades has been fixed.   I apologize that the student
names appeared on the grade sheets.   Microsoft blames it on Netscape's
inability to handle frames properly.   I suspect netscape would blame it on
microsoft.  In any event the problem has been fixed and should not re-occur.

27 Oct 2000:  Latest grades posted.  Reading assignment posted.   Homework set 8 posted.

21 Oct 2000:
Answers to test 2 have been posted.   Note that your test2 will included
Gravitation and Keplers Laws.   I have also put in new links to the Conceptual
                       Questions.

Important Note:  In class I made a mistake when I quoted Keplers third law
in the case of elliptical motion.   I said the period square was proportional to
the length of the semi-major axis.   I should have said the cube of the minor axis
axis instead (see your text!).    Thanks to your classmate Rohit Vasan for
                       correcting me on this point.

11 Oct 2000:  There will be a voluntary problem session (aren't they always voluntary?)
this thursday at 5 pm.   No attendance will be taken.

2 Oct 2000:  I have posted new links for conceptual questions.  You can get to the links from the
main class web page or just click here.   Reading assignment for next wednesday has
                     been posted.

29 Sept 2000: Reading assignment for next Monday has been posted.   Here is a link.
On the homework assignment:  Problem 9-11 involve conservation of momentum
and concepts of inelastic collisions and energy conservation.   Studying example
                        6.6 may help.

25 Sept 2000:  Homework set #5 has been posted.  Due to late posting set is a bit shorter.
The latest grades have been posted; these include the results from Test #1.
You may click here to see the cumulative grades.

22 Sept 2000: A practice test for test #1 has been posted.   You can link to it here.

28 Aug 2000: Homework set #1 has been posted.  Please download ASAP.

28 Aug 2000:       Hints for homework set 1:

On question #15 it might be easiest if you draw a position versus time graph for both
the bird and the runner.  Look for the time t at which these graphs intersect.

You can solve question #16 by summing an infinite series (the hard way) or you can
use the fact that the bird and jogger travel for the same length of time (easier way).
