30 Oct 2000: The snafu with the grades
has been fixed. I apologize that the student
names appeared on the grade sheets. Microsoft blames it on
Netscape's
inability to handle frames properly. I suspect netscape would
blame it on
microsoft. In any event the problem has been fixed and should not
re-occur.
27 Oct 2000: Latest grades posted.
Reading assignment posted. Homework set 8 posted.
21 Oct 2000:
Answers to test 2 have been posted. Note that your test2 will
included
Gravitation and Keplers Laws. I have also put in new links to the
Conceptual
Questions.
Important Note: In class I made a
mistake when I quoted Keplers third law
in the case of elliptical motion. I said the period square was
proportional to
the length of the semi-major axis. I should have said the cube of
the minor axis
axis instead (see your text!). Thanks to your classmate
Rohit Vasan for
correcting me on this point.
11 Oct 2000: There
will be a voluntary problem session (aren't they always voluntary?)
this thursday at 5 pm. No attendance will be taken.

main class web page or just click here.

28 Aug 2000: Hints for homework set 1:
On question #15 it might be easiest if you
draw a position versus time graph for both
the bird and the runner. Look for the time t at which these graphs
intersect.
You can solve question #16 by summing an
infinite series (the hard way) or you can
use the fact that the bird and jogger travel for the same length of
time (easier way).
