  3. CAMPUS AREA: Presidential Library and Museum: 2:15pm
The cost of the tours is covered by the confernce.

Near Campus


George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum


The Presidential Library is located on campus walking distance from the hotel.
We will meet at the hotel at 2pm and walk over to the museum.

  • Right on SMU's campus, The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum serves as a resource for the study of the life and career of George W. Bush, while also promoting a better understanding of the Presidency, American history, and important issues of public policy. The Library and Museum accomplishes its mission by preserving and providing access to Presidential records and other donated collections, hosting public programs, creating educational initiatives, preserving artifacts, and producing innovative museum exhibits.

Downtown


We will meet at the hotel at 2pm and take the DART train to the 3pm downtown museum tours.
We will also meet at the hotel at 4pm and take the DART train to the 5pm downtown museum tours.
Note, if you are downtown you can view multiple museums during the afternoon.
The Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Museum, and the Nasher Sculpture Center are accesible from the
DART "Pearl/Arts District Station".

All downtown visitors are suggested to stay downtown and go directly to the banquet.
Transportation from the banquet to the hotel will be provided after the conclusion of the banquet.


Dallas Museum of Art

  • The Dallas Museum of Art's broad collection of art embraces everything from European paintings to Pacific Island sculptures. In fact, more than 23,000 items represent ancient times to the present. Frederic Church's "The Icebergs" and classic impressionist works by masters like Edouard Manet and Paul Gauguin are part of the large collection. Limestone galleries spiral from a central area, making for easy navigation and outstanding viewing.

Crow Collection of Asian Art

  • The Crow Collection of Asian Art is nestled like a small jewel in downtown Dallas, offering visitors a glimpse of a world possessing serene beauty and tranquility in the heart of the bustling city. The museum features a variety of spaces and multiple galleries focused on the arts of China, India, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia drawn from cultures, both ancient and contemporary. Just 16 years in operation, this lovingly curated, always free museum offers a calm setting for quiet reflection and learning in the Dallas Arts District.

Klyde Warren Park

  • Klyde Warren Park serves as a central gathering space for Dallas and its visitors. The 5.2-acre deck park, designed by The Office of James Burnett, is an urban green space built over the recessed Woodall Rodgers Freeway between Pearl and St. Paul streets in downtown Dallas. Klyde Warren Park is a highly active space, providing daily free programming for the public ranging from yoga to book signings to outdoor concerts and films. The park is privately operated and managed by the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.
  • Excellent location to relax between tours and banquet.

Nasher Sculpture Center

  • A museum oasis in the heart of downtown Dallas and home to one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary sculptures in the world. The museum features luminous indoor and outdoor galleries to discover works by the greatest artists of our times, including those by Matisse, Picasso and Giacometti, as well as special exhibitions featuring modern masters and contemporary artists.
  • Regular admission includes a free audio tour and entrance to special exhibitions.

The Sixth Floor Museum

  • The Museum is located on the sixth and seventh floors of an early 20th-century warehouse formerly known as the Texas School Book Depository. The permanent exhibit features films, photographs and artifacts that chronicle President Kennedy's life, death and legacy. Temporary exhibits can be seen on the seventh floor.
  • Free audio guides are included with exhibit admission. The audio guide is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese.

The Dallas World Aquarium

  • Located near the Historic West End in downtown Dallas. Come and Spend a day among marine life of the South Pacific, Great Barrier Reef, and the Red and Tasman Seas; take a stroll through a South American rainforest surrounded by lush vegetation, free-flying toucans, otters, crocodiles and several species of monkeys; or visit the Yucatan Peninsula and the highland rainforest of the ancient Maya.
  • Although the DWA does not own parking areas, parking is available at surrounding parking lots, varying in price from $3 - $8. City-operated parking meters are also available.

At 6:30pm, we will have buses from the hotel to the Perot museum.
Note: If you are downtown, we recommend you go straight to the Perot;
this is walking distance from the downtown museums.


Perot Museum of Nature & Science

  • Chock full of amazing artifacts and exhibits, the Perot Museum of Nature & Science in Dallas mesmerizes visitors as it allows them to explore geology, natural history, space, the human body and more. Along with informative exhibits and interactive displays, the facility features an IMAX theater and a planetarium where dramatic, beautifully rendered shows bring the wonders of the world closer. The children's museum within the Perot ensures that young folks are happily engaged as well.

  • We will have buses running from the Perot to the hotel from 9pm to 11pm. Museum closes at 11:00pm
